Practical Tips
- Best Cycling Season Spring (April–June) and autumn (Sep–Oct) offer the best conditions. Summer works best for early morning rides — it gets hot by 10am.
- Watch the Tramuntana Wind The famous Tramuntana can reach gusts of 80 km/h. Check the forecast before heading out; it can make coastal routes genuinely tough.
- Sun Protection The Empordà plain offers little shade. Apply high SPF sunscreen, wear a cap under your helmet and carry plenty of water.
- Navigation Download routes to your GPS or phone before setting off. Komoot and Wikiloc have excellent local coverage. Signage on rural tracks can be sparse.
- EV Charger On-Site Mas Santa Caterina has an EV charger — handy if you bring an electric bike. Check plug compatibility with the owner in advance.
- Car Shuttle for Long Rides For linear routes (e.g. the Ter path to Girona), consider a car drop-off or pickup. We are happy to advise on logistics and local taxi contacts.
- Water Refill Points Most village squares have public drinking fountains. In summer, carry at least 1.5 L per person.
- Cycling with Dogs The flat routes to Empúries and the dog beach are suitable for dogs on a lead alongside a bike. Avoid MTB trails and busy roads. Start early.
