Map of Sobrestany

The Mas Santa Caterina estate is picturesquely located at the border of Alt and Baix Empordà, near the old fishing village of l'Escala, nestled in the coastal landscape of the Costa Brava. The estate comprises two independent buildings: the typical Catalan Masía and the lovingly renovated barn. Both houses share a large enclosed garden, particularly suitable for travelers with dogs. The garden offers plenty of space for running around and is securely fenced, even for animals prone to escaping.

The Masía, a traditional residence with rustic charm, is rented out to families in the summer. With its three-and-a-half double bedrooms, it offers ample space for larger groups. During the rest of the year, the Masía is not available for rent, as the owners, Marta and Oliver, often spend weekends there. They work in Barcelona during the week and use a separate plot of land west of the Masía, leaving the shared garden exclusively for guests.

The barn, however, is available for rent year-round and is ideal for families of up to four people. The second bedroom with bunk beds is perfect for children or teenagers. Guests renting the barn have exclusive access to the garden and a small pool, ensuring a high level of privacy and comfort.

The estate is located in Sobrestany, a small, quiet village with just over 20 houses. The settlement, part of the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí, is known for its peaceful atmosphere. Situated at the foot of the Montgrí Massif, Sobrestany provides access to a protected natural park with numerous hiking trails, ranging from gentle slopes to more challenging routes.

The surrounding area offers several interesting villages to explore. Bellcaire d'Empordà, the nearest village, has two charming cafés and the highly recommended restaurant l'Horta. Towards the coast lies l'Escala, a historic fishing village with a lively promenade, cozy restaurants, and cafés, as well as several beautiful coves like Cala Montgró and Les Muscleres. Here, you will also find all major supermarket chains to meet daily needs. L'Escala is connected to Roses via a long coastal strip, lined with picturesque villages such as Sant Pere Pescador and long, wide sandy beaches.

The estate is also a paradise for nature and sports enthusiasts. The region is well-known among ornithologists, as rare bird species like kestrels and a resident pair of falcons can be observed here. The natural park offers numerous trails for hiking and cycling, ranging from relaxed bike tours between nearby villages to challenging mountain paths. During the summer, the beaches of Empúries invite visitors to enjoy watersports like sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and diving. Adventurers can also book paragliding, hot air balloon rides, or kayaking trips on the Ter River.

The region is not only known for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural history. The Empordà was once a Greek colony and a center of Iberian culture. Historical sites such as the Iberian ruins of Ullastret or the excavations of Empúries invite you to fascinating explorations. Art lovers can visit the Dalí Museum in Figueres or follow the artist's footsteps in Púbol and Cadaqués.
